Christmas Eve Avalanche

Goodness gracious, an avalanche! So much for our Christmas holiday at the Mirror Lake Inn Resort and Spa in Lake Placid, or so I thought. We had both lost loved ones and our beloved pet so when my husband suggested we start a new Christmas tradition I was ready to make a change however; I hoped it would be stress free. Did I mention that there were trees in various rooms and fires burning? Oh yes, I kid you not. Relax…when my husband and I descended to the main floor on Christmas Eve we observed beautifully decorated holiday trees in every room. Nearby the fireplaces were burning bright and the dining room looked like an enchanted forest. It was loaded with a variety of appetizers the length of the nearby alpine run. We had a scrumptious dinner and finished with a sleigh ride on a nearby mountain with a group of tourists who did not speak any English. However, by the end of the ride we taught them how to sing Jingle Bells, (only it was more like Jingla Bells… over and over again!). As we entered the lobby of the Mirror Lake Inn, an avalanche awaited. Yes, hundreds of chocolate chip cookies arranged like a ski slope just begging to be taken to our room before Santa arrived. The Mirror Lake Inn pulled out all the stops to make this a memorable and hospitable holiday for us. We will be back to continue the tradition.
