Star Light, Star Bright

As I sit here alone and begin to write this story, tears swell up in my eyes and a small pain starts to surface from within my heart. My tears are not of sadness but rather of true happiness and love.

As the third child in a family of nine, we had very little money. We shared a small townhouse with three bedrooms and two bathrooms. At night, for privacy I would sit in the upstairs bathroom and look out the window, up at the stars, and repeat the nursery rhyme “Star Light, Star Bright, First Star I see tonight”.

It was there that I’d wish that my family could live in place we could call our own. I wish to have my own bed and better still my own bedroom. I wish to have a kitchen big enough that we could all have dinner together at the same time.

It was there that I’d wish to become a lawyer to assist those less fortunate than myself. To right, all what seemed to a young child, as being so wrong.

It was there, in that tiny bathroom, where I’d dream about marrying a man who was honest, kind, generous, and hard working. A man who would love me forever. (How could I have possibly known at the tender age of sixteen that I would have found that man, standing across an arena floor, smiling my way. Seven years later we got married and five years after that we started our family).

Through true determination, a strong work ethic, and most importantly our love for each other - Mark and I have been successful at building a comfortable life for ourselves and our two sons. We built that home with a kitchen big enough to sit twelve comfortably. Though law school didn’t work out we’ve been able to assist those in need in so many more ways then I could have imagined.

To celebrate these amazing years we wanted to find a place that would allow us to relax, unwind and reflect on our 25 years together. After doing some research we heard about Mirror Lake Inn, its peaceful surroundings, the caring and warm staff, the impeccable service, and above all the dedication everyone had for the Inn. It sounded perfect, and after the 12 hour drive from Ontario Canada, we discovered it was.

Mirror Lake Inn and the folks in the town of Lake Placid gave us everything we hoped for: serenity, calmness, and comfort. e.g. the long walks around the town, the massages in the spa and the excellent dining experiences. It also gave me time, while sitting out on the Adirondack chairs, to turn to Mark and thank him for the wonderful life he made for us. Because of him, I was able to live the life a little girl dreamed of. Because of our experience at Mirror Lake Inn -I was able to express it.
