Beautiful Surprise

The Mirror Lake Inn is our favorite place. It’s a place where we can relax and feel comfortable; a place where we go to get away from life’s stresses.

We were initially introduced to the Inn about 18 years ago when a co-worker gave us a gift. The gift was a two-night stay at a place called the Mirror Lake Inn in Lake Placid. My husband and I drove to Lake Placid, having no idea where or what we were headed for. We were first impressed with the scenery on Route 76. The beauty of the hills and waterfalls was breathtaking. After a three hour drive, we finally arrived in Lake Placid. We found our way to the Inn, parked the car and headed up the step walkway. As we ascended the front stairs in the main lobby, we were left speechless. We just couldn’t believe how beautiful everything was and that we were actually staying there. What an extraordinary gift.

After our initial visit, we knew we had to return. We went back to the Inn on our 5th, 10th and 15th wedding anniversaries. Each visit becoming more special. The comfort of the Inn, the staff, even the smell of the Inn (and of course the cookies) always leaves us wanting to come back. We can no longer wait five years between visits and now try to head toward the Inn yearly – if we don’t have a special occasion, we invent one!

Several of our stays at the Inn have either been surprise to my husband or to me. We have each surprised the other with a secretly planned weekend away. When we would start heading up the Northway, the other would be full of smiles, guessing the destination.

Up until last year, we had kept the Inn to ourselves, not bringing our two girls. This past Mother’s Day however, was one of those surprises. My husband and girls had planned a weekend away, which included all of us staying at the Inn. Our girls were also amazed at the beauty of the Inn and were jealous of the time we had spent there without them. Now we all can’t wait to go back. Once you’ve stayed at the Mirror Lake Inn, there is no other place to stay - it leaves a feeling with you, a feeling that you can’t wait to return to.

P.S. We can't wait to return to the Inn. We were excited when we saw the initial drawing date for the contest - our wedding anniversary is 4/23!
