| Always Waiting By: Megan J. Wormleysburg, PA |
As sure as the crisp cool air of a late autumn day in the Adirondacks, my memories of the Mirror Lake Inn are always with me. To arrive at the Mirror Lake Inn is to arrive at peace. The Inn always envelopes me with warmth and relaxation, from the moment I walk through the front doors to the moment I leave.
The fresh aroma of balsamic pine greets me at the door and leads me to the warm crackling fire. The piano plays. With delight I find the afternoon tea set out with cups of coffee brewed to perfection. Delicious fresh baked chocolate chip cookies, warm from the oven, a special treat which my taste buds always recognize. In the study, with my book, I snuggle by the fire joined by my old friends Mr. Moose and Mr. Bear. Soon the grandfather clock chimes and I head up to my room!
Ah, the room! Here, nestled cozy in a little slice of heaven, I can sip my coffee and watch the sun set, framed by the mountains, and reflected on the lake. Breathe-taking! Later I will retire to the most comfortable bed in the world which will be impossible to get out of in the morning . . . .
But before bed, to the spa! Laps in luxury by the cascading waterfall to the steam room and finished off with hot tub (big enough for the whole family)! My own personal retreat later, to the sanctuary, eucalyptus, warm fire, and deep tissue massage, the gentle lilt of the harp follows me to my room.
Morning greets me relaxed and lazy. Crunchy oatmeal soap and fresh coffee do their job and I head to the restaurant for breakfast. My favorite! Fluffy buckwheat pancakes, as big as my plate, drenched in pure Adirondack maple syrup and topped with generous pats of butter. All washed down with freshly squeezed juice.
I’m now adequately fueled for my day of hiking, biking, skiing, or riding . . . whatever the season may be. And I am out the door willingly, knowing that the Mirror Lake Inn will always be waiting for me.
