Simply Magical

I had been traveling to the Adirondacks since I was a child and it has always been a magical place for me…I wanted to share the enchantment with the man that I love. We arrived that Monday evening after a full day and long drive from Central New York through a snow storm, trying to temporarily escape the holiday preparations.

This was our first visit to the Mirror Lake Inn and we promised each other that it will not be our last. It was beautifully decorated for Christmas and the scent of balsamic evergreens filled the lobby. Our room overlooked the lake and we had an amazing view of the mountains blanketed in snow. The moon illuminated the cool December sky and the stars appeared a little closer and a little brighter in the mountains.

We sank into the large over stuffed sofa, thoroughly enjoying each other. Time seemed to stand still as we shared a cocktail by the crackling fire…we toasted…Carpe Diem….and all of our concerns seemed to simply melt away. We slept well in our large comfy bed cradled with extra pillows ready to conquer Whiteface the next morning. The day was magnificent while the snow sparkled in the sunshine and the skiing was perfect. We had to get back though that afternoon to be majestically pampered with a massage at the spa.

We walked through the village that evening and had dinner at the newly remodeled restaurant, Charlie’s. After dinner we browsed the quaint shops decorated for the Christmas season….a true winter wonderland. We decided to stop by The Cottage for a nightcap. The warm fire and friendly staff welcomed us and although the kitchen was closed for the evening, the bartender graciously brought out a bag of freshly prepared microwave popcorn for us to nibble on.

We have both spent time in beautiful Lake Placid in our pasts, but this was our first trip together. When you are with the one you love…it typically does not matter where your travels take you …but this getaway was truly enchanting. I was saddened when our two day stay came to an end…so relaxing…yet rejuvenating…and exactly as I had anticipated…simply magical!

I will always cherish the memories of our first stay at the Mirror Lake Inn and know that we will return one day soon…..
