Last year I surprised my husband with a trip to the Mirror Lake Inn for his 40th birthday. Having two young children, we don't often have the opportunity to get away alone. It was early December and the Inn was beautifully decorated for the holidays. We had such a wonderful time, we decided to make it an annual tradition. We returned this year and had another memorable weekend. Christmas was just around the corner. Christmas morning after our children had made quite a mess, and we had exchanged what I thought was all of our gifts to each other, my husband told me he had one last surprise for me. He had made me an ornament for our Adirondack-themed tree. It was a picture of the view of the lake from our room in The Cottage. I was so touched that he would think of such a romantic and thoughtful gift. To my surprise, there was a diamond earring atop each pine tree to look like stars. Needless to say I was speechless, and I have not taken them off since! It will forever be my favorite ornament! We cannot wait for our return trip in December 2007. (Who knows what next Christmas could bring!!)
