Long Awaited Honeymoon

I was 20 and a college sophomore. My husband was 22 and we were in love. But, he was in England and the visa process couldn’t move fast enough for us. We wanted to be together & we wanted to get married. But, bureaucracy moves at a snails pace and the months dragged by. Senator Clifford Case came to our aid, and the INS finally issued Paul his visa.

We were finally able to marry on July 2, 1978 and left for our honeymoon at the Mirror Lake Inn on July 3. We had not spent much time together at all in the previous two years. Our time was spent writing pages and pages of letters to each other, with the occasional quick phone call on special occasions.

So it was that our honeymoon at the Mirror Lake Inn was not just your “average” honeymoon. It was our opportunity to get to know those little things about each other that most couples learn while being together day after day. We now had the chance to get used to spending real time together. And the Mirror Lake Inn was the perfect place for us. Now, 29 years later, I remember that time as if it was yesterday, and I believe that I always will. Thank you, Mirror Lake Inn, for my wonderful memories.
