| Pure Luxury By: Patricia W. West Henrietta, NY |
It was in June of 2001. It was only my second time in the Adirondacks. We stayed in a lean-to at the ADK Loj for 8 days, 7 nights. By day, we hiked Mt. Jo and to Marcy Dam. We saw Ausable Chasm and took the ski lift up Whiteface Mountain. Took in the Green Mountains of Vermont and the beauty of the Adirondacks. At night we were serenaded by the song of the loon and heard the sounds of bears lunbering about in the woods. The calmness, wildness and vastness just took my breath away.
We had reservations at the Mirror Lake Inn for one nught, a gift from our employer for a job well done. We loved being out in the woods but were excited about the Inn: we had only ever walked by. On our last day we packed up and headed for town.
There we were in our hiking boots after a week in a lean-to walking in the front door of the Inn. The staff was wonderful and welcoming, the cookies were fantastic! The room overlooked MIrror Lake with Whiteface looming in the background.
Everything was so luxurious. The sheets felt so good, the oversized Egyptian cotton towels, the oatmeal soap, the lip balm, the plush cotton robes. We went to the pool area and enjoyed the sauna and hot tub for the longest time. We thought, "it can't get any better than this", then we went to dinner! The meal was wonderful and the service was exceptional. From the restaurant you can look outside and see the white lights scattered about on the grounds of the Inn, it looks magical.
We have visited in the winter. It's so nice to get up early and take a walk around the lake before anyone is really out yet. We love to be able to walk across the street to the Cottage and sit out on the deck(the heaters are on, but still outside, feeling the briskness of the winter), overlooking the lake watching the dogsleds. The menu is great, easy selections. We love the cheese board, Boursin cheese is now one of my favorites!
Our stay was pure luxury. We went from one extreme to the other and we will forever remember our first stay at the Mirror Lake Inn. |
