Warm Welcome, Lasting Impact

Our summer of 2005 had been a difficult one. Adam had left home to work on a highway 11 hours North of where we lived. It was difficult spending a summer away from my boyfriend (now fiance) whom I have known since we were around 10 years old.
So, Adam decided to plan a trip for us to look forward to and he was taking care of everything. All I knew was that I had to be in the car on the 30th of November. We headed out and arrived at the Mirror Lake Inn in the late afternoon.
I have never been to a place so wonderful in my life. As soon as we walked in the staircase welcomed us warmly which was followed by a friendly greeting from the front desk.
For the next two days we ambled around Lake Placid and the Mirror Lake Inn just taking everything in and enjoying eachother's company. It's strange because it is like Lake Placid is in it's own little world. We noticed many of the stores were cel phone free, there were ducks socializing on the sidewalks, all traffic stopped for pedestrians and everyone was like a long lost friend.
We checked out the local brewery, walked around Mirror Lake, played a mean game of checkers in the lounge at the Inn, relaxed in the hot tub and really felt at home doing all of this.
Our room was spectacular and we enjoyed one of the best breakfasts' we have ever had. We still talk about how the juice tasted as though it was the first time we had ever had 'real' fruit juice. We also found that the staff was very attentive and gracious. We were playing checkers and the fire had just about gone out when a house keeper noticed us in there and stoked the fire while asking how we were doing and showing a genuine interest in us.
It was a combination of all these small but significant details that makes the Mirror Lake Inn our favourite place to visit. So much so that we have decided to spend out 'Honeymoon' at the Mirror Lake Inn this May. Can't Wait Til May!
PS- Adam still talks about the cookies that you had on the front desk...I think that was his favourite part.
